Quality Sash Windows in uPVC, Aluminium & Timber , Cirencester, Gloucestershire, Wiltshire
Sash windows are often associated with older Gloucestershire properties. Indeed, it's a style that's been around since the 17th Century, and is frequently found in listed Georgian or Victorian buildings. However, it's also a style that's persisted into the present day, and you can very easily fit modern sash windows to your home.
The term sash window refers to window made up of one or more moveable glazed panels, or sashes, that's usually opened by sliding the sash up vertically. The weight of the panel is counterbalanced by a weight hidden inside the window frame, that's operated by a chain or pulley. The sash can also be locked into position.
Weatherproof and Secure Sash Windows
Sash windows had something of a bad reputation for draughts, rot and general deterioration of the woodwork, the sliding design making them more vulnerable to the weather than casement windows. People often replaced their original sashes with mock versions, that kept the looks whilst operating on side hinges, like casements. However, modern manufacturing has solved all of these problems, and a replacement sash window will be every bit as weatherproof and secure as any side-hinged window. Timber framed sashes are still available, as well as durable and easily maintained uPVC.
As well as being an attractive design, sash windows have significant advantages in terms of ventilation. They're the only style of window that can be opened at top and bottom, allowing warm air to be drawn out from the top of the room whilst cooler air is drawn in through the bottom.
If you're looking to give your home some elegant and timeless replacement windows, then sash windows are a serious choice.
