Light Touch

As a relatively recent build, at only 12 years old, it is perhaps surprising that the owners of this Oxfordshire property have needed to replace their windows and doors already, “we’ve lived in the house for 5 years and came to realise that the windows were rotten and poor quality; I think the builders must have got them out of a skip” says Mrs Brimacombe.

Having lived with windows and doors that were ill fitting and had big gaps around them, the homeowners were understandably keen to make well-informed decisions and avoid the poor choices made by the builders. 

“We’ve planned the changes in three phases, to spread the outlay and attend to them in order of priority.”

Contemporary flush casement windows, along with bi-fold doors and French doors have been installed so far. A contemporary Dowr door with sidelights now adorns the front, featuring stainless steel hardware and sandblasted glazing panels. All the items have a ‘French Grey’ finish externally with an ‘Off-White’ finish internally to coordinate with the interior scheme. 

“We’re very pleased with them; it’s given the house a much better look, it feels much softer and has more character.”

Previously, the windows were poorly designed with too many glazing bars, that were starving the interior of natural light, “the rooms feel much lighter and brighter now, and the bi-folds are a lovely addition” Mrs Brimacombe describes.

The new windows and doors have brought a raft of benefits now that they are chosen and installed with care, “the fitting team were really good, and we’ve noticed that there are no draughts now and road noise is massively reduced.”
